Governor Brown Vetoes AB 101 (Perez)

This afternoon, Governor Jerry Brown vetoed AB 101. AB 101 was sent to the Governor's desk last week. Assembly Bill 101 was sponsored by the American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees and the Service Employees International Union and amended at the legislative deadline to include language by Assembly Speaker John A. Perez and Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg.

In his short veto message, Governor Brown, while acknowledging the importance of both high-quality affordable child care facilities as well as fair and decent working conditions for child care workers, believes that the economic realities the State finds itself in preclude the introduction of a program of such magnitude and potential cost.
