June 28, 2006 - Update - 100 Million for Preschool
Yesterday, June 27, 2006, the legislature included an additional $100 million in the state budget for preschool. Building upon the Governor's Preschool Proposal for children in the areas of the lowest performing schools, this funding will provide $50 million in ongoing funds to expand the state preschool system, and $50 million in one-time funds for preschool facilities.

The Budget is not over yet -- there will be Big 5 budget negotiations between the Governor and the four leaders of the Legislature. And one item that the Governor wants is his proposed expansion of preschool for children in the areas of the lowest performing schools. June 1, 2006 - Update - CCDAA sponsored bill, AB 2881, passes through the Assembly
AB 2881 (Mullin) – the new version of AB 927 – passed the Assembly yesterday. The vote was 72-8. The “No” votes were all Republicans probably trying to back up a Governor veto) but 24 Republicans voted for it, too. The Bill will now travel to the Senate!
As amended, AB 2881 will clarify in the Education Code that full day, child care preschool centers funded by the Child Development Division are education programs and will require that Family Child Care Home Education Networks be notified whenever the license of a family child care provider is suspended or revoked.
May 31, 2006 - Update - CCDAA sponsored bill, SB 1750, passes through the Senate
SB 1750 (Vincent) passed through the Senate with a 39-0 vote! It will now go to the Assembly. As amended, SB 1750 Allows agencies to augment funds through third party funding sources without having said funds being considered in determinations of maximum expenditures made by the CDE, and requires CDE to develop and maintain a standardized system of auditing, which will be provided to contractors in writing, any standards, rules, and auditing protocols to be used in those audits.
May 26, 2006 - Good News for CCDAA's Bills AB 2881 and SB 1750! 1. AB 2881 (Mullin) just cleared Assembly Appropriations Suspense. It now goes to the Assembly floor. May 16, 2006 - Update - CCDAA Sponsored Bill, SB 1750, Passed Through the Senate Education Committee
SB 1750 passed Senate Education on May 10 with a unanimous vote by Democrats and Republicans of 9-0! The Bill has been sent to Senate Rules, and then will go to Senate Appropriations. We expect it to pass Appropriations without a problem and then pass the Senate floor without a problem. Then the bill will be sent to the Assembly Education Committee for its second major hearing.

April 24, 2006 - CCDAA’s Bill – AB 2881 passes through the first Legislative Committee
One of CCDAA’s three bills, AB 2881(Mullin), passed out of the Assembly Education Committee on a vote of 11 to 0 on April 19th.
The bill does the following:
1) Clarifies in the Education Code that full day, child care preschool centers funded by the Child Development Division are education programs.
2) Requires that Family Child Care Home Education Networks be notified whenever the license of a family child care provider is suspended or revoked.
3) Requires that CDE reports on unspent funds.
CTA is in “strong support.” There was no opposition.
